The AIUM is proud to honor and recognize current and former members as well as pioneers who have contributed to the growth and development of medical ultrasound. 

William J. Fry Memorial Lecture Award

The William J. Fry Memorial Lecture Award recognizes a current or retired AIUM member who has significantly contributed, in his or her particular field, to the scientific progress of medical diagnostic ultrasound. The recipient presents a lecture before an audience of peers.

The Joseph H. Holmes Pioneer Awards honor current or retired AIUM members who have significantly contributed to the growth and development of diagnostic ultrasound. Each year, the AIUM honors one individual for clinical contributions and another for basic science contributions.

The Peter H. Arger Excellence in Medical Student Education Award honors an individual whose outstanding contributions to the development of medical ultrasound education warrant special merit.

Carmine M. Valente Distinguished Service Award

The Carmine M. Valente Distinguished Service Award honors an AIUM member whose longstanding contributions in the furtherance of the AIUM mission warrant special merit, as chosen by the AIUM staff and President.

AIUM Fellows

The individuals who have achieved AIUM Fellow status have demonstrated a commitment to both the AIUM and to medical ultrasound. In addition to meeting eligibility requirements, candidates must submit a comprehensive application that demonstrates their contributions to medical ultrasound, and secure letters of recommendation. Each application is reviewed by a committee and ultimately approved by the AIUM Board of Governors.

AIUM Senior Members

The AIUM Senior membership program was initially designed to provide a stepping stone to Fellow status. While the AIUM still recognizes its members who have achieved this designation, the AIUM is no longer accepting senior membership applications.

Honorary Fellow Award

The Honorary Fellow Award bestows an honorary membership upon those individuals who have contributed significantly to the field of ultrasound and in most cases whose primary residence is outside of North America.

Memorial Hall of Fame

The Memorial Hall of Fame serves as a posthumous tribute to a creative and devoted physician, sonographer, research scientist, or other individual who has been an active member of the AIUM as an officer, Board of Governors member, award recipient, JUM editor or deputy editor, or committee/COP leader and contributed to the field of ultrasound in medicine.

The Memorial Recognition serves as a posthumous tribute to a creative and devoted physician, sonographer, research scientist, or other member or nonmember who has contributed to the field of ultrasound in medicine.
