AIUM Reaffirms Commitment to Unbiased Standards and Non-Endorsement of Commercial Products

Feb 18, 2026

Laurel, MD  — The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine, today reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to impartiality and independence in setting clinical standards and providing ultrasound education.

As an unbiased standards-setting body and provider of accredited ultrasound education, the AIUM develops evidence-based guidelines and educational offerings that advance patient safety, quality care, and best practices in ultrasound. The organization does not endorse or recommend any commercial products, brands, or manufacturers. AIUM guidelines and courses reference categories of technology and methods, not specific products, to maintain neutrality and allow clinicians flexibility in meeting safety and compliance requirements.

“The AIUM’s mission is to empower and cultivate a global multidisciplinary community engaged in the use of medical ultrasound through raising awareness and education, and sharing information and research,” said Steven R. Meyers, PhD. “Neutrality and transparency are core to all we do. Our guidelines and accredited educational offerings are designed to support healthcare professionals, patients, and our members without favoring any commercial interests.”
