LAUREL, MARYLAND - J. Oscar Barahona, BS, RDMS, will be honored with the Distinguished Sonographer Award during the 2012 American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) Annual Convention at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 30, 2012. The Distinguished Sonographer Award is a means of recognizing and honoring current or retired AIUM members who have significantly contributed to the growth and development of medical ultrasound.
Mr Barahona’s involvement with the AIUM is remarkable. He was elected to the AIUM’s Board of Governors in 2005 and to 2 terms on the Executive Committee as second vice president from 2007–2011. He has been active on the AIUM’s Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council, serving as both a reviewer and site visitor for practices applying for accreditation. In addition, he has been a member of various committees, including the Endowment for Education and Research Committee, Annual Convention Committee, and Keepsake Imaging Task Force.
For the past 25 years, Mr Barahona has served as president of Greenwich Ultrasound Associates, PC, which provides diagnostic ultrasound staffing services to local institutions in the areas of high-risk obstetrics, general and interventional ultrasound imaging, vascular imaging, and breast imaging. Mr Barahona’s dedication to the advancement of medical ultrasound warrants special merit, and the AIUM is proud to honor him with this award.
The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9,000 physicians, sonographers, scientists, students, and other healthcare professionals. Established in the early 1950s, AIUM is dedicated to empowering and cultivating a global multidisciplinary community engaged in the use of medical ultrasound through raising awareness, education, sharing information, and research.
