R. Eugene Zierler, M.D.

R. Eugene Zierler, MD, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington and Medical Director of the D. E. Strandness, Jr. Vascular Laboratory at University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He received an MD degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed a General Surgery residency at the University of British Columbia and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr. Zierler joined the University of Washington faculty in 1984 and has been involved in a series of projects based on the use of ultrasonic duplex scanning for screening and follow-up of vascular problems, including carotid artery disease, lower extremity arterial disease, surveillance of vein bypass grafts, deep vein thrombosis, and renal artery disease. He has served on the Board of Directors of Inteleos, a certification organization that includes the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement, and he is a Past-President of the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. In his non-medical life, he is a guitar player and singer-songwriter.
