Synthetic Focus Imaging Techniques

This session will give an overview of new focusing methods for advanced ultrasound imaging. These include synthetic aperture ultrasound imaging, plane wave imaging, retrospective focusing, adaptive beam forming, frequency domain beam forming, and dual-stage beam forming, which all break with the conventional single-emission–single-transmit focusing paradigm. After this session, participants will be able to understand the principles behind these new imaging modalities and their relative strengths and weaknesses.
