Acoustic Output Database
Developed with support from the Dr. Richard A. Banjavic Memorial Fund.

The AIUM Bioeffects Committee is engaged in an ongoing project, spearheaded by Drs. Brian Garra and Wesley Nyborg, to develop an acoustic output database with information on equipment specifications provided by the US Food and Drug Administration and individual manufacturers.

The database is a work-in-progress and will be updated regularly. The Bioeffects Committee encourages users to comment on the database and submit suggestions for enhancements. Recommendations should be e-mailed to admin@aium.org.

Download the database here. The database is in a zip file. After you have unzipped the database, choose "Part A: Introduction," which will provide you with instructions on how to use this database.

Acoustic Output Measurement Standard for Diagnostic Ultrasound Equipment
Revised Appendix A

A revised Appendix A, "Statistical Considerations," may be viewed by clicking on the PDF logo below. This document has been approved by the Technical Standards Committee as a replacement for Appendix A in the joint AIUM/NEMA publication Acoustic Output Measurement Standard for Diagnostic Ultrasound Equipment (1998). It is being posted on the AIUM website for review and comment. This appendix has been revised, in part, to cover current statistical procedures now being performed by the diagnostic ultrasound industry to obtain USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory clearance, such as the one-sided tolerance test for normal distributions. The revised appendix also contains a new statistical procedure for the case of multiple transducers and consoles.

This revised appendix will be included in the next revision of the output measurement standard, scheduled for 2003, and will not become effective until that time.

Please send comments to AIUM Technical Standards Committee, 14750 Sweitzer Lane, Suite 100, Laurel, MD 20707-5906 USA.
