The Fetal Abdomen: Beyond the Basics

Because the anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract is less well delineated in the fetus, discrete abnormalities are often poorly appreciated and defined as either “cystic or solid.” However, the exact pathologic correlate, as well as significant associations and implications for care, remain undiagnosed. This session will aim to give an image-based review of abnormalities of the fetal gastrointestinal tract, with specific attention to anatomic correlates and associated concerns. On completion of the session, participants will have an understanding of the etiology of both cystic and solid masses of the gastrointestinal tract and how to evaluate them.
