The AIUM is pleased to announce the release of
Ultrasound Lecture Series: Obstetrics and Gynecology, an ultrasound curriculum intended for delivery by faculty at residency programs in the United States focusing on obstetrics and gynecology.
This program consists of 31 lectures and is designed to provide consistent national curriculum content for ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology while allowing flexibility for presenters to incorporate their own knowledge and experience. The series focuses on practical clinical information and is filled with images that illustrate all aspects of a basic ultrasound examination, including representative examples of pathology and abnormalities which are commonly identified with ultrasound. All lectures are followed by a set of 5 multiple-choice questions and answers that can be used to document resident participation and learning. PowerPoint notes are included to clarify or explain slide contents and references are included with each presentation.
This comprehensive introduction to ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology comprises the contributions of a large number of authors and editors and explores a wide range of topics:
- Basic ultrasound physics
- Safety
- Instrumentation
- Specific fetal organ system anatomy and pathology
- Gynecologic ultrasound, including normal pelvic anatomy and pathology
- Evaluation of common clinical complaints
This curriculum is expected to provide residents with a strong foundation in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations. Presentations are intended to provide sufficient depth and clinical relevance to be of value to all who care for obstetrics and gynecologic patients, whether or not they will perform or interpret ultrasound examinations. This program will prove a significant asset for residents in obstetrics and gynecology, of potential use for fellows, attendings, and sonographers.
The AIUM has collaborated with the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG) to create the
Ultrasound Lecture Series: Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Produced with the support of an educational grant provided by the AIUM's Endowment for Education and Research (EER).
