Accreditation
Practice Requirements
Multiple-Site and Mobile Ultrasound Practices
Eligible practices seeking accreditation for multiple sites and/or mobile units can submit a single application; however, additional fees apply. Site visits are not normally required to achieve accreditation, but practices with more than 10 sites and/or mobile units do require a visit. Multiple-site and mobile practices must meet the following criteria:
- There must be a base site and satellite sites or mobile units. A practice that consists exclusively of mobile units must designate 1 as the "base."
- The practice must be a single corporate entity.
- There must be 1 physician director of ultrasound who oversees all sites and/or units.
- Physicians must rotate through sites if a site does not meet annual procedure volume requirements (170 ob/gyn ultrasound exams per year, 300 general/abdominal ultrasound exams per year, 60 diagnostic breast ultrasound exams a year, or 25 interventional breast ultrasound exams a year).
- CPT code volumes must be submitted for each site and/or unit.
- Comparable ultrasound equipment and maintenance of equipment is required at all sites.
- Identical practice policies, protocols, and diagnostic criteria are required for all sites.
