Senior Application Process
As a multidisciplinary organization, the AIUM clearly recognizes the importance and value of all ultrasound professionals - scientists, sonographers, and sonologists - in ensuring the appropriate and safe use of this unique imaging modality. However, to recognize individuals who have demonstrated substantial accomplishments in the field of ultrasound, the AIUM established the category of senior member.

Although all AIUM members who have been general members for at least three consecutive years are eligible to apply for senior status, designation as a senior member is not automatic; indeed, only a small percentage of members meet all the requirements.

Qualifications
Physicians, Sonographers/Technologists, Scientists, and Others
  • Three consecutive years of participation as an AIUM General Member at the time of application
  • Five years of experience in ultrasound
  • AIUM organizational participation

Senior Application Process
An announcement is made in the fall of every year, that senior membership application will be accepted for those who meet the above criteria. Applications and associated materials are reviewed by the AIUM membership committee and recommendations are forwarded to the Board of Governors for approval. Applicants will be notified of their status following the Board of Governors meeting by late spring. Applicants who are not approved as senior members will receive letters detailing which of the criteria they did not meet. Once the criterion or criteria have been met, applicants may reapply in subsequent years, without payment of an additional application-processing fee.

To apply for senior status, interested members should
  1. Download the application OR Contact Member Services for a senior member application.
  2. Complete all applicable questions on the application.
  3. Submit the following materials via e-mail or mail to LuAnn Archer. E-mail: larcher@aium.org.
Mailing address: AIUM, Attn: LuAnn Archer, 14750 Sweitzer Ln, Ste 100, Laurel, MD 20707-5906
    • Completed Application (please type)
    • Letters of recommendation
    • Curriculum vitae or resume
    • Copies of the face sheets of your published ultrasound-related articles (if applicable)
    • Application fee of $35 US dollars (nonrefundable) - check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express
Please note annual dues and benefits for senior members remain the same as for general members.

The AIUM is proud to honor its current senior members and urges all interested members who meet the requirements to apply for this honorary status. Senior member status is also one step toward the distinctive status of AIUM fellow.
